We are currently seeking a GIS Speacialist to join our operations in a permanent, full-time position.

The GIS Specialist is responsible for setting up project specific databases in PostgreSQL and project files in QGIS. They are constantly looking for ways to improve on processes by the automation of tasks. They communicate with all other departments/groups to find ways to make the work more efficient and less prone for errors. Besides that, the QGIS Manager provides tools to run in QGIS mainly for the design and permit groups to provide higher quality results for clients faster. Moreover, finds ways to migrate data efficiently between different pieces of software such as QGIS, Katapult, AutoCAD.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage GIS and Database Management team; 

  • Empower all divisions to boost productivity by innovating and implementing automation scripts, saving valuable time, and eradicating human errors through the development of new tools and methods; 

  • Work closely with the Software Development Manager to communicate the needs of different teams using your understanding of telecommunication principles; 

  • Communicate with Project Managers and Team Leaders about database extracts and new database capabilities to streamline work; 

  • Extract data for reports, and ensuring data quality through both manual and automated quality control processes; 

  • Ensure timelines for all tasks are within project timelines; 

  • Address last-minute deliverables, encompassing tasks such as data updates, database queries, and plan generation. Depending on the project timeline, initial execution may be required, and training of team members is done later; 

  • Overseeing the creation and updating of project files, so GIS users can perform work as efficiently as possible; 

  • Overseeing the creation and updating of print templates in QGIS for generating drawings, and different types of plans;

Additional Requirements
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check;
  • The successful candidate must be authorized to work without visa sponsorship required.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License of Class 5 and is required to maintain a reasonable driver's abstract.
Experience Required
  • BS Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering is preferred;
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is asset;
  • Telecommunications experience is preferred or demonstration of competency;
  • Project Management experience is preferred; PMP designation is an asset;
  • + 3 years of QGIS or other GIS, and SQL experience is required;
  • Experience working in and leading large multi-disciplinary teams preferred;
  • Good experience with Office 365 and Microsoft Projects.
